Book Fun Friday Welcomes Katie O'Boyle

Welcome to Book Fun Friday and Happy Friday and Happy Third Day of Autumn. Can you believe Autumn is upon us? Wow….my favorite months are ahead. And you’ll love the Fall lineup I have. Lots of spooky themes for the month of October, holiday jewels starting November 30th through early January. I’ll roll out a list of upcoming guest authors in the next couple of weeks.

Author Bio:

Born in the Finger Lakes of Upstate, New York, Katie O’Boyle loves the area in every season. That’s why she set her Lakeside Porches romances in Tompkins Falls on Chestnut Lake. To the outside world, she’s a tech-savvy college professor. To friends and readers, she’s the author of warm-hearted romance.

Book Title: Finding the Way Back to Love (contemporary romance)

Log Line:

When their love shatters, can they find their way back?

Book Tag Line:

Gwen comes from a wealthy, loving family and devotes her life to helping alcoholics in recovery. Peter, the scarred-for-life son of a hopeless drunk, is dedicated to law enforcement. They’re hot together! She’s a recovering alcoholic herself, though, and he never lost his disdain for alcoholics. When the going gets tough, will their differences destroy their love?
Book Blurb:
Gwen Forrester, gifted psychotherapist and beautiful widow, is stuck in a rut, dating hotties on the fast track. She really wants a life partner, a family, someone to make a difference in their home town. New in town, Officer Peter Shaughnessy, 30, has recovered from the gunshot wound he suffered in a drug bust, but he’s still smarting from years of abuse from his alcoholic father. Gwen thinks it’s fate when her pregnant niece Haley trips the security system at Gwen’s lakeside home and Officer Shaughnessy takes the call. By joining forces to help Haley, Peter and Gwen discover they’re a good team. Long, exhilarating canoe trips convince them they’re on the same page with life. Then a destructive squall lands them on the rocks, and a night of passion reveals painful truths that drive them apart. Will they go to any length to find their way back to love?

Book Blurb:

Gwen took a nervous sip of almost-cold coffee. “I’m sure her mother was no help. Ursula is completely self-absorbed. She probably threw Haley out on the street.” She used a piece of bagel to push the rest of her omelet into the center of the plate and rested the bagel on top. “Haley and I didn’t get into the hard questions last night. All I know is she came here by bus with a duffle full of dirty clothes—none of them maternity clothes—and a stash of cash.”
“She told me last night she walked here from the bus station,” Peter said.
“I didn’t even know she was coming.” Tears burned Gwen’s eyes. “I realized this morning, she had left me about six messages from four o’clock on. I should have been here for her.”
“Gwen, you were here for her.” Peter’s voice was gentle. “Your timing was just off a little. And maybe it’s not a bad thing that the police confronted her for breaking in last night. It’s a wake-up call that she’s making some desperate decisions. Bad ones.”
“You’re a wise man, Officer Shaughnessy.” Gwen dabbed at her eyes with her napkin and gave him a grateful smile.
“I have a sister. She made some bad choices at that age, too.”
He drank down his juice and slid off the stool with a fluid motion that rippled the muscles of his torso, under his tight, white T-shirt. A thrill shot through Gwen.

Question for You Dear Read (leave your question in the comments below!)

Do you have a favorite cookie recipe?

Here's One From Katie:
Gwen is a psychotherapist, but she doesn’t need a Ph.D. to know food is the way to a man’s heart and cookies save the day when the going gets tough! Occasionally, she chooses a recipe that had healthy ingredients. The better to rationalize seconds...

Here’s Gwen’s recipe for Almond-Butter Quinoa Bars. I’ve modified it to use a non-sodium baking powder and no salt, but you may want to use a teaspoon of baking powder and ¼ tsp. salt.

Almond-Butter Quinoa Bars

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup crunchy almond butter
2 large eggs at room temperature
¾ cup packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
¾ cup quinoa flour
1 tsp. Featherweight baking powder substitute
1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips

Use a pre-heated 350-degree oven and an 8-inch foil-lined baking pan.

Beat butter and almond butter until creamy. Beat in eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla.

Whisk together flour and baking powder. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Stir in chips.

Bake 25-35 minutes until toothpick in center comes out clean. Let cool for 45 minutes. Lift from pan to cutting surface and cut into 24 squares.

Cool completely. May be stored up to 5 days in the refrigerator (if they last that long!)

Each bar has 247 calories and 3 grams of protein.
